Reviews
I do not come to the theater to find answers. Sometimes I receive information, sometimes I express feelings, and sometimes I grab energy. Fox Angel is the latter for me, as if I had glimpsed a certain moment of déjà vu, and felt calm and peaceful in the madness.

In this work, I see the creative team's humanistic concern for a specific group: young urban office workers. Job, sentiments, the search for meaning in life, and the concern for psychological trauma. These elements are pieced together into an important existence for contemporary youth, and it is all backed by good psychological and philosophical background.

I had intense mood swings throughout the whole work. Once you entered this entirely different world, you could, without hesitating at all, toss all your own feelings there and the aesthetic pleasure would just come to you.

I have never seen such a play. Every action of Huang Xiangli's on stage could add a unique voice to the character. The slightest facial expression was haunting, whether it was her fear, anger, helplessness, inner breakdown and despair, or her happiness, bashfulness, and capriciousness.

To watch Fox Angel is to enjoy Meng Jinghui's aesthetic. Huang Xiangli's touching body language, emotional expressivity, and dramatic delivery have given this one-man show an intensity. She plays five different roles by herself, each one unique. Their lost, messy lives are immersed in the audience, and in this black box theater.

About Fox Angel
As it is named Fox Angel, this play is full of mysteries, temptations, cunnings, curiousness, sharpness, and vigorousness. In a car accident, the person who was hit and the person who was to blame both became representatives of evil. A curse gave birth to thoughts in an empty brain. Insomnia led to love, or to desire, or oneself. The last wish rekindled the heartbeat and continued the life on the stage. The deceased was silent, and the beings hovered in this wavering space…
